Truly Like Lightning

It’s no secret around here that I have a soft spot for David Duchovny. The only thing stopping me from masturbating while watching The X-Files episodes when I was in high-school was my overly catholic education. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny were my idea of partners for the most perfect threesome, and that is very … ahem … catholic.

Anyway, I’ve followed both their careers over the years. Gillian Anderson is still kicking ass as an actor and I always watch whatever series she is in, even if I don’t like the overall series.

David Duchovny might have gotten tired of acting because he focused on music and writing. His music is good because of the lyrics and storytelling. He is not an exceptional vocalist, and the good instrumental part of his songs is 100% the work of the youngsters in the band. His singing voice reminds me of the wise old men that use to sing songs in the mountain cabins after a long trek. It’s an acquired taste, and probably those that like his music, pretty much like him for all his previous achievements.

I am very happy he started singing and touring honestly. Because this has given me the opportunity to meet him twice. And I was amazed by how good he looks for his age, but also by how normal and humble he is.

Anyway, as soon as he started writing books, I looked up his bio and read about him to make sure the books are worth buying. He has a degree in English literature, so how bad can his writing be? And I started reading everything he wrote. And I did not hate it.  The book I like the most from him so far, is Bucky F*cking Dent, I’ve probably mentioned this on my blog before.

But a while ago, he mentioned on his Twitter account that he is releasing another book called “Truly Like Lightning”. And because I have an Amazon account, I pre-ordered it; on the 10th of October 2020.

Time flew, as it usually does, and in January 2021, reviews for the books started to get posted on Twitter. And everybody was saying the book is great and is amazing. And then Amazon let me know that my delivery date was changed to the end of March. I’m not an impatient person, really. I know the benefits of delayed gratification. But, it was a little annoying to see all the people talking about it and there I was … just … waiting.  And I couldn’t stop myself and I posted this tweet.

It was not one of my greatest moments and I was definitely a little bit bitter. But … three days later my book was delivered. Yeah… 3 DAYS LATER. The tweet was posted on the 3rd of February. I am now sitting at my desk with the book in my lap. This is quite a peculiar coincidence.

And I don’t want to be paranoid, but I write software and software books for a living. The first project I worked on was a search engine. I am good enough with Google queries to find everything a person had ever posted publicly on the internet. It would be quite possible somebody from the marketing team saw my tweet and said: Who ’tf is this bitch? Let’s get her the book to stop her complaining and instead make her write about the book on her blog, thus increasing its exposure for bloody free! Because nobody paid me to write about the book (yet) and believe me, I will write about it as soon as I’m done with it.

Also, now that I think about it, I use the same email for Amazon and Twitter, I could easily be found if somebody had access to both databases.

You could say… the book reached me… truly like lightning.

And I will read it as fast as such.

Stay safe, stay happy!
